Program Objectives

Cambridge Elementary School is committed to an educational program which recognizes the unique value, needs, and talents of the individual student. Our Enrichment Program is an integral part of this commitment. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide experiences where all students will be challenged academically, socially, and emotionally to achieve their greatest potential and to have a sense of responsibility for self, school, community, and society.


Objectives

  • Provide alternative learning experiences for students who are capable and ready to learn at advanced levels of depth and complexity. 
  • Provide differentiated and independent studies which meet both cognitive and affective needs. 
  • Offer the creatively and mechanically gifted an opportunity to express and develop their talents. 
  • Increase student motivation and intellectual learning curiosity for all students. 

Services

1. Subject and Grade Acceleration replaces classroom instruction. Selection criteria includes teacher and parent recommendations, classroom observations, assessment scores, and classroom performance.  Examples include daily advanced reading, writing and math groups.

2. Independent Studies/Projects individualize services for advanced learners and supplement or replace classroom instruction.Selection criteria includes teacher and parent recommendations, classroom observations, assessment scores, and classroom performance. Examples include research projects and exploration of robotics and coding.

3. Enrichment supplements classroom instruction. Selection criteria includes teacher and parent recommendations, classroom observations, assessment scores, and classroom performance. Examples include weekly engineering, writing, and science classes.

4. Team Teaching provides collaboration with classroom teachers to increase the effectiveness and practice of differentiated instruction.

5. School-Wide Enrichment offers in school projects and extracurricular opportunities to all students.

6. Support Services provide parents and staff with resources on the social, emotional and intellectual needs of gifted learners.
